The work
Problem, solution, outcome.
The problem
Movement restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic closed the door on a service that a great many people in the Kingdom depend on. Remittance is not discretionary. For workers sending money home, a branch that cannot open is a month that does not arrive.
Tahweel Al Rajhi customers needed a way to complete a remittance in person, without gathering in an enclosed branch hall, and without travelling across a city under restriction.
The solution
Rather than wait for the halls to reopen, AU Banking worked with Al Rajhi Bank to build the branch as a vehicle. A custom-built mobile banking and remittance unit, fitted with the self-service platforms AU already supports across the Kingdom, and specified to be compliant with the health requirements of the moment.
It could be parked where the customers were, at a labour compound, an industrial district, a neighbourhood cut off from its nearest branch, and it opened for service on arrival.
The outcome
Customers reached remittance services safely during a period when fixed branches could not receive them. The bank extended its footprint without building anything permanent, and the unit moved to wherever the need was greatest next.
The project stands as the clearest statement of what AU does: the engineering is only half of it, the other half is putting the service within reach of the person who needs it.
